word paintings
When painting, Moses often make notes of or comments on intended topics or titles. At one point, she began writing these reflections on the front rather than reserving them as side notes for titles. She coined this series “Word-paintings”, because words are the basis of the paintings. They are nearly all written as-is, in one sitting with pen on watercolor paper. As a result the writing is often a bit uneven, imperfect, and there’s occasional scratching out. These often emotionally responsive works consist of writing, that is painted in service of the text, or to enrich the message. They are ideas conveyed in words first, instead of in colors. Note: there is a watermark on the images in this series that is not part of the original artwork.
